In the US, vermouth is
pronouced vərˈmo͞oTH
Historically, there have been two main types of vermouth: sweet and dry.
The labels on the bottle have been Red for the Sweet Vermouth, and Green for the
Dry Vermouth (you can rmember this by thinking that in the alphabet, R(ed)s is
close to S(weet) R-S, G(reen) is close to D(ry) G-D.
Responding to consumer demand and competition, vermouth manufacturers have
created additional styles, including:
- extra-dry white
- sweet white (blanc or bianco)
- red (rosso)
- amber (ambre)
- rosé
