What is Gin?

Gin is a distilled spirit that gets most of its flavor from Juniper Berries. (Juniper Berries taste like the way pine smells: green, fresh, and the outdoors in the woods. They have a fruity citrus flavor and some spice).

Gin originated as a medicinal liquor made by monks and chemists across Europe, to provide a strong distilled spirit from grapes and grains.

Gin today is produced in different ways from a wide range of herbal ingredients, giving rise to a number of distinct styles and brands. After juniper, gin tends to be flavored with botanical/herbal, spice, floral or fruit flavors or often a combination. It is commonly consumed mixed with tonic water in a gin and tonic. Gin is also often used as a base spirit to produce flavored, gin-based liqueurs, for example sloe gin, traditionally produced by the addition of fruit, flavorings and sugar.

What are the different types of Gin?

London Dry

London Dry Gin originated in England. This is what most people think of when they think of gin — it's what you typically get in a Gin & Tonic, or a martini. Common brands include: Beefeater, Tanqueray, & Bombay Sapphire.

Plymouth Gin

Plymouth Gin is only made by one distillery. Plymouth Gin got popular because it was mentioned in multiple recipes in the most significant cocktail book in the world, the Savoy Cocktail Book
